Donald Trump took the time to meet with Patrick Mahomes’ family on Sunday ahead of Super Bowl LIX as he continues to show support for the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.
The 29-year-old and his wife, Brittany, have made no secret they are big fans of the 47th US president and ahead of tonight’s clash in New Orleans, Trump appeared to confirm their allegiance to MAGA, stating his fondness of the couple when predicting the Chiefs to secure a historic Super Bowl ‘three-peat’.
“I’ve watched this great quarterback, who’s got a phenomenal wife, she is a Trump fan and a MAGA fan, I happen to love her, she’s a great person,” Trump told Fox News. “I have to go with Kansas City.”
Ahead of kick-off at Caesars Superdome, Trump became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl when he turned up to the home of the New Orleans Saints, but he also made headlines for meeting with Mahomes’ family prior to kick-off.
The quarterback’s mom, Randi Mahomes, found some time for a quick photo with the president, posing alongside her two other children as they all bore big smiles in one of the glamorous executive boxes in the upper echelons of one of the stands.
The interaction between Trump and Mahomes’ family only further strengthened the relationship between the two, with Randi previously voicing her admiration for the 47th US president for attending the game.
“I think for a president of our country, of the United States, I think it’s amazing,” she told Fox News Digital earlier this week. “I think whoever the president is, to support the teams, to support America’s best sport. … I think it’s really neat for a president to be able to support it. You know what, let’s do it.”
Mahomes also got behind Trump’s decision to attend, telling reporters: “It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president. Someone that is at the top position in our country.”
Unfortunately for Mahomes, Trump’s presence didn’t provide him with any luck, with the Chiefs suffering a meltdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Kansas City quarterback had endured a nightmare first half alone, being sacked three times, picked off twice and having one of his throws returned for a touchdown.
